Overlapping textures for blocks

  • 2013-08-21 20:00:40
What would be required to make two textures overlap on a single block?
The point is that would like to put a partial texture on different blocks (let's say half of the block is old texture, half is a new one) without just drawing those textures?

So something like the breaking effect of the block? When you mine something with a pick, a overlay texture of a cracking surface is rendered over the blocks texture?

    Pretty much, yes.

Is this supposed to work for all blocks or only for your specific one?

It would be best if it worked on any block.

I think its better to just create them manually if you can. Because overlapping textures can be pretty advanced. You might need to need to create a rendering class for you block and then render the texture differently for each side.

I don't know any mod that overlay textures for all blocks so you might be on your own if thats what you want :P

Vswe taught a bit about custom block rendering in his Anatomy of a minecraft model course. It might be useful to you although it didn't really go into detail of how to customise your textures.
